Time Management Tips

1. Note down your schedule

Write down your schedule on a Sunday night before the workweek. This will help you save time when you turn up to your office first thing on Monday. You will no longer have to spend a huge chunk of time creating a list of things you need to do on the day because you already prepared the night before. This could easily save you anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on how much work you have to do or how distracted you get

2. Prepare your bag

Prepare your work bag and clothes the night before. This way when you get up in the morning, you don’t have to waste time selecting a matching tie or shirt. Subsequently, your morning routine would be quicker and more fuss-free. It would also be a good excuse to snooze for another ten minutes instead of trying to figure out what to wear.

3. Be positive and boost your motivation.

Anything that makes you feel good and happy to work – it could be exercise before work or listening to your favorite music while working. Exercise releases endorphins that help you feel good and more energized to tackle the day ahead.

As per the survey about 30 to 40 % of people like to listen to the radio while at work. Indeed for many people, music can help you stay more focused on and motivated towards finishing your tasks. Just make sure it does not turn into a distraction from your work.

4. Increase your productivity.

Increase your productivity by decluttering your workspace. Messy surroundings are enough to look away and demotivate you from doing anything, whether that be at home or at work. When your desk is clean, it’s quicker to find things, hence quicker to finish your work. It will also help you increase your productivity because you’ll feel good about working at your desk, and tidying up your workspace is an achievement in itself.

5. Create a routine for repetitive tasks

Create a routine for repetitive tasks to improve efficiency. Separate your fixed tasks from your flexible ones. Fixed tasks are the tasks you do regularly and flexible tasks are those one-off tasks or the ones that only come up sporadically. Create a routine for the fixed tasks so you get more efficient at them.

For example, fixed tasks could be checking emails, reviewing the previous day’s performance, and checking phone messages. Block out a small part of your day, every day, to do these instead of spending half the day on them.

6.Sleep on time

Determine whether you are an early bird or a night owl. Smash the bulk of your tasks when you feel most energetic and productive. For me personally, I’m a lot more efficient with my time in the early morning before everyone’s is still dreaming . Hence, I like to sleep on time and wake up early.

If you’re a night owl and want to increase your productivity, then sleep late after everyone else does might help you get a lot more done.

7. Eliminate distractions to increase your productivity.

This means having clear boundaries with your colleague, family, and friends that when you work, you really need to work. You can do this by closing the door, hanging a “do not disturb” sign on your door, putting your headphones on, turning off your phone and not checking social media until you finish work. You can also write an honest list of everything that makes you unproductive and try to avoid them as much as possible.

8. Finish maximum task

It’s a lot easier to procrastinate and make excuses when you have no idea what tasks you need to do for the day.
Your to-do list acts as your guide to what exactly needs to be done. You could write down your tasks first thing in the morning when you get to work or write them down the night before for maximum efficiency. That way when you get to work, you’re ready to roll up your sleeves.

9. Prioritize task to accomplish

Focus on the top three tasks you need to accomplish. Out of all the tasks on your to-do list, focus on the three most important tasks you need to do. If you are swamped with work, you can easily get overwhelmed by thinking of everything at once, forcing you to give up. Honing in on just three tasks will help you feel more motivated to do your work.

10. Document your progress

Document your progress for self-evaluation. Writing down how your day went is a great way to know what systems are working and what doesn’t. Self-evaluation will help you to claim your increment at the workplace. You will be able to justify your salary. It will also help you realize what tasks are getting done and which ones are getting neglected. It’s very important, to be honest with yourself and eliminate habits that are not doing you any favors when it comes to productivity. This will help you shift your focus next time so you can be more productive.
