Is it the right time to start a blog? Why not give it a try as it is free on WordPress. All you need to do is some research and ask yourself what do you want out of this blog. Thanks to the lockdown this is a perfect opportunity to turn passion into action.

What is a blog ?
A blog is just a website that is updated with new content on a regular basis. It is normally written in an informal or conversational style. Steps to Start a blog
Step 1 : Decide your topic
To start your blog, the first step is to decide the topic. In a blogger’s language, it is called ” niche”. For instance, if you are passionate about cars then your niche is all about cars. Similarly, you can decide as per your passion and knowledge about the topic. You can check here for the top 10 best niche for the blog.
If you are passionate about a car but don’t have the knowledge it will be difficult to describe it in your post. It is very important to ask yourself what is the purpose of choosing a particular niche? Is it because your friend is writing about it or you love to write about it?
Tips 💡 : Parenting, Cooking, How to make money online, Travel and food, outdoor, trekking etc are some niche topics.
Step 2 : Decide blogging platform
Blogging requires platfrom to store your content on their server. To be more specific its a content management system that allows you to create, edit, review and publish your content online. You have lot of option to choose from when it comes to blogging.
I highly recommend using WordPress because it has a great interface for beginners. And it comes with various built-in plugins and tools. Apart from this WordPress is easy to integrate with web hosting. Read in detail about web hosting here.

Step 3: Decide domain name
If someone needed directions to your house, they would need your address. The same thing goes for your blog. Your domain name tells people and search engines on how to get to your blog. For example domain name for my site is mubinsmanual.com.
Check availability of domain name and buy it before its gone.
I recommend you to register your domain name at the same place you get your web hosting. This simplifies the process. You will probably find out that your first choice is already taken, been there done that ;P No worries get those creative ideas out of your mind and select it. I tried to get my domain as mubinansari.com but it was already taken so I ended up with mubinsmanual.com
Tips 💡 :
- Keep the domain name short
- make it memorable and easy to spell
- choose top level domain such as .com, .net, .org .
- avoid hypens.( mubins-manual.com is no good )
Step 4: Select Theme
Once you decide your domain name, you can select a theme to publish your first post. If you are not ready to purchase a domain you can still use the default domain name provided by WordPress.
When I started WordPress default website was mubinsmanual.wordpress.com. I purchased the domain eventually after learning all the tools and plugins. Different themes have different privileges. Theme should have a responsive design, high reviews , user-friendly, easy navigation and should be attractive. I personally recommend to use ThemeIsle because of there fast and responsive design. You can download it for free is another advantage. I am using Neve by ThemeIsle.
Step 5: Post and Publish
Once you select your theme, delete the default contents and plugins. WordPress contains various plugins that beginners will not require. Try to keep the content ready with you for posting. You need to set your home page and other navigation pages. The home page should be as small as possible in terms of size. Google ranks your site based on your sites responsiveness and traffic. - Be ready with the details you are going to publish on your page.
- Pages are – Home Page/ Landing page, About, Contact me, Blog, etc.

Step 6 : Shoutout !!
Once you are done, give a shout out to your blog. Let people know about it. If you are consistent people will revisit your blog. This is not done yet you need to work on it. These are some simple steps to start a blog. Starting a blog is like planting a tree. You need to improve your content and make it more attractive. Do not copy-paste or try to imitate others.
