Before visiting any new place you must research its population, culture, currency, language, etc. Georgia is a very beautiful country that falls under the European continent. The best thing you could do is read about it on Wikipedia.

Visiting Georgia from Dubai is very easy and convenient with Fly Dubai. I remember taking a weekend flight after my working hours and reaching Georgia on the same day. The flight duration is 3 hours and 30 mins from Dubai to Georgia. At present, due to COVID-19, all flight timings have been changed but 3hrs and 30 mins is a manageable timing. Before traveling make sure you refer to the safety traveling manual.

Places to Visit in Georgia

Tbilisi is capital of Georgia, and you need to book your hotel in the capital as it is closer to the International Airport. I stayed in L-Plaza Hotel which was very neat and clean 3- star hotel.

Pro Tip: Ask for the top floor as you will get a big balcony and can see the sunrise from your bed!

Well, you need to plan your trip well in advance in order to explore the city. You can either take help of reception for arranging a cab and a driver or you can contact Mr. Honey Singh – MD of Sam Tours.

Day 1

Djvari Monastery Complex

Jvari Monastery is a sixth-century Georgian Orthodox monastery near Mtskheta, eastern Georgia. It is built at the top of Jvari Mount (656 m), the monastery is an example of harmonious connection with the natural environment, characteristic of Georgian architecture.

Cave City

Vardzia is a cave monastery in Samtskhe-Javakheti (Georgia’s southwestern region). Queen Tamar ordered the construction of Vardzia in the twelfth century. It contained apartments dug out of the rock and outside terraces for cultivation. An irrigation system was designed particularly for this. One of the central places in the cave system is the Church of Dormition with distinguished medieval mural painting. You will need to pay for entry ticket at this place, its worth paying for.

Mtskheta

Mtskheta is a city in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti province of Georgia. Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers flow nearby and it makes it look more beautiful. Mtskheta makes an easy and enjoyable day trip from Tbilisi.

You can walk around this place and buy some souvenirs. Not only you can buy gifts but also explore traditional Georgian food. Undoubtedly you shouldn’t miss the fresh cut watermelons by the local vendors. It’s really tasty and homegrown organic fruit.

Day 2

Zhinvali Lake

Zhinvali (Jinvali) Dam, also known as a lake is located on the Georgian Military Highway. Soviets constructed the dam in the 1980s. As Tbilisi was growing rapidly, there was a need for a new water supply. The government decided that the Aragvi Gorge rich with glacier water was the perfect spot

Gudauri

Gudauri is highest peak and it is famous for ski adventure. Apart from ski adventure you have para gliding and cable cars at Gudauri. If you are planning to visit in winter do not forget to get warm clothes. November to April is the coldest season . I went during summer time , the climate indeed was very pleasant .

Kazbegi

Kazbegi is further ahead of Gudauri ,where 2 wheel vehicles cannot access. You need to book another 4×4 vehicle for the bumpy mountain terrain. It is a whole new experience for a wonder-luster.

Tbilisi Botanical Garden , Mother Georgia, Waterfall.

After returning to the city you can get down to the old city for exploring the gorgeous city on your own. It is based on the high mountain and you can either go hiking or take the cable car. On top of it, you can see the Mother of Georgia statue.

The Mother of Georgia is 20m high and has wine in one hand and sword in the other. It is believed that wine is for friends and sword for the enemies.

There’s an entry fee for the garden and you can find some exciting cable cars for additional charges. You can explore the garden and can visit the waterfall inside the garden. You can take a dip in the small pond near the waterfall.

Day 3

Sighnaghi Bodbe Monastery

The Monastery of St. Nino at Bodbe is a Georgian Orthodox monastic complex and the seat of the Bishops of Bodbe located 2 km from the town of Sighnaghi, Kakheti, Georgia. Originally built in the 9th century, it has been significantly remodeled recently.

Wine Tour

To be honest we didn’t enjoy this sight because it involves wine tasting. Yes, we don’t consume alcohol so it was not that fun. But since I am an explorer I figured out the nearby lake and we went there .

Ilia Lake

If you are a Muslim and want to skip wine tasting you can go for this lake. You can do swimming,boating, cycling, and other activities near this lake. It is recommended that you carry your snacks as you wont find much options as this place is still under development.

Shopping

Once you are back in the city you can get down at Old Tbilisi City and go shopping. You can really enjoy the street shopping in the old city from clothing to traditional Georgian spices.

Hot-Sulfur Bath

This is very exciting as all your stress goes away after this relaxing and soothing sulfur bath. Yes, you read it right, Tbilisi has hot springs of sulfur and its healing benefits include treating skin irritations and infections such as rashes and eczema. Sulfur-rich hot springs are also thought to help treat dry scalp, arthritic pain, and internal problems such as menopausal symptoms and digestive disorder

There are two options available for sulfur bath one is open for the public and the other is private. During peak season time it’s always full so try to reach there as early as possible before sunset. Or book it online on their site Royal Bath

Day 4

This day is finally checkout day, so make sure you didn’t forget anything valuable. You can check out early and keep the luggage at the hotel. Based on your flight timing you can explore the old Tbilisi City.

The Bridge of Peace

The Bridge of Peace is based on the Kura River in Tbilisi. It is linking the Rike Park with Old town in central Tbilisi. Peach Bridge is a bow-shaped steel and glass construction illuminated with numerous LEDs. Pedestrians can walk around and click pictures.

Tbilisi Zoo
The Tbilisi Zoo Park is the oldest and largest zoo in Georgia, in the country’s capital of Tbilisi. If you have kids or you are animal lovers you will definitely like it. The entry ticket is applicable and it doesn’t cost much.

Traditional Market

You can walk around the street market for shopping. Most of them are small size entrepreneurs. You can bargain as per your skills and get the deal done. Churchkhela is one of the most famous Georgian Traditional Sweet. If you are lucky enough you can spot them making fresh Churchkhela in front of you. These traditional sweets are made of nuts beaded on a thread and cooked in flour-thickened grape juice.

Conclusion

Well, that’s how I spent my short and memorable trip to Georgia. It is almost a year now I haven’t traveled out of the country and I can’t wait. But nonetheless, Dubai is still open and my staycation plans are still on.

Pro Tips for Visiting Georgia :

• Download Offline Google Maps before traveling to Georgia which comes in handy.
• Download Google Translate especially for negotiation as some taxi drivers don’t speak English.
• The most important thing to note that Georgia falls in the European region and most of the toilets are without a hand-gun and you have to rely on paper. Some toilet falls short of paper as well so keep small bottle always with you for using the restroom.
